Christianshavn
The Christianshavn district was founded as a fortified town by Christian IV in 1618.[3] Copenhagen’s waterfront was rather exposed to the sea.
To secure the area and expand the city’s footprint, Christian IV began his largest project, inspired by Amsterdam’s canals.
Originally, the district was meant to be star-shaped, but it ended up with the square at its center, and they worked outward from there.
